India Immigration Update 2026: No Boarding Pass Stamps From September 1

India's Bureau of Immigration (BOI) is set to stop stamping boarding passes at immigration counters for international departures from September 1, 2026, across all international airports. The change means passengers will still be able to use either an e-boarding pass on a smartphone or a physical boarding pass, but physical boarding passes will no longer receive an immigration stamp.

Passports will continue to be required as usual for international travel. Travellers should therefore continue carrying their valid passport along with their applicable boarding pass and travel documents.

Separately, India is also running a pilot project aimed at eventually removing physical entry and exit stamps from Indian passports. This passport-stamping change is not yet implemented nationwide and should not be confused with the boarding-pass stamping change taking effect from September 1.
