South Africa ETA Fee 2026 | ZAR 500 Charge Now Applies to Indian Travellers
South Africa's Department of Home Affairs has formally adopted a ZAR 500 processing fee for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) applications, gazetted on August 17, 2026, replacing the previous fee-free arrangement. The ETA platform was formally launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa on August 12, 2026, at OR Tambo International Airport after operating in phases since October 2025. India is one of the four initial markets covered, alongside China, Indonesia and Mexico. Ordinary Indian passport holders can apply online for tourism or business travel using a valid passport, passport details and a live selfie for biometric verification. ETA-supported entry is limited to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Cape Town International Airport and Lanseria International Airport. There is no visa-on-arrival fallback, so travellers who require an ETA or eVisa and arrive without the required authorization can be refused entry. Travellers should check the latest South African Department of Home Affairs guidance before departure.
