USCIS Form I-485 2026 Update | New 09/18/26 Edition Required From September 18

USCIS will publish a revised edition of Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, on September 18, 2026. The new 09/18/26 edition will replace the current 01/20/25 edition, with no grace period. Before September 18, 2026, only the 01/20/25 edition will be accepted. On or after September 18, 2026, only the 09/18/26 edition will be accepted, and filing the wrong edition on the wrong side of the date will result in rejection. The revision updates Part 9, the public charge section, to align with the new Public Charge Ground of Inadmissibility rule, which also takes effect on September 18. USCIS has published a preview of the revised form and instructions in advance so applicants can prepare, but the new edition cannot be filed before September 18, 2026. Applicants should check the latest USCIS guidance before filing.
